Participatory Design Process

Through a series of successful projects, BNIM Architects has developed and tested a participatory design process that brings together all stakeholders in a building project with a core group of nationally recognized experts in the disciplines deemed most appropriate for the particular project. BNIM Architects works directly with the client to develop a team of participants including staff, residents, designers and engineers in addition to an appropriate team of imported experts.

Essential to our concept of the design process is our belief that we can efficiently transport ideas, technologies and their progenitors thousands of miles to the site of a project while we can only maintain efficiency in the transportation of material resources over distances of tens or hundreds of miles. Therefore, it is critical that our various experts pass their ideas and skills on to the local community, leaving behind both a well-designed building and also a legacy of inspiration, innovation and technology. To effect this, we coordinate every phase of the project by working directly with local participants through face-to-face meeting and electronic communication. In order to ensure the quality and integrity of the design, all design decisions ultimately flow through our office into the hands of the client.
