By-Product Synergy

.

What if you could make an investment that would…

.

add value to the community,

.

increase productivity,

.

improve the regional environment,

.

…and save money?

.

What if you could work with regulators to meet common goals?

.

Economy, Society, Environment

.

What if you could partner with neighboring industries in a way that created new business opportunities?

.

What if you could lead the region or the nation toward a new vision for industry?

.

.

What if you could turn your waste into a product that had market value?

.

What it is

By-Product Synergy (BPS) is a multi-industry facilitation process aimed at turning one organization’s waste, or by-product, into a valuable resource for another organization. Each project involves recruiting ten to twenty diverse companies in a given industrial region as fee-paying participants. Through the BPS process, these individual organizations are transformed into a dynamic cross-industry team focused on turning every gram of material running through their plants into product—either for themselves or through a trade agreement with another BPS company.

This eco-efficiency program also creates significant environmental benefits. Participants reuse and recycle greater volumes and different kinds of materials. Pollution prevention efforts are extended beyond the plant fence into the community. Orphan waste streams are targeted. New, unexpected energy efficiencies are uncovered. Air and water emissions fall through synergy implementation. And unintentional regulatory barriers that have stood in the way of environmentally sound collaborations are illuminated and addressed.
