Applebee’s Restaurant Support Center
BNIM Architects was selected by Applebee’s Services, Inc. to design Applebee’s new Restaurant Support Center located in Lenexa, Kansas. The Support Center, housing more than 500 associates who provide support for the company’s 1,800 restaurants worldwide, will incorporate many progressive workplace and sustainable design principles to increase satisfaction and productivity of Applebee’s associates.
Programming of the outdoor spaces responds directly to the culture and needs of the company. The campus is focused on human health, productivity and stewardship to the environment. The aim is to enable greater innovation, minimize operating expenses (electricity and water) and cost effectively support the business (minimal maintenance requirements).
The new Support Center contains three special outdoor spaces located between building wings for Associate use, pleasant viewing, and function. The courtyards have a different, unique character and outdoor design for each that distinguishes one from another. They all promote a relaxing outdoor environment with choices for retreat options, entertainment areas, or an extended work place for the Associates. Each one includes sustainable design measures and allows for a greater connection to the landscape surrounding the building - including great views of the lakes to the east.
