BNIM Announces Kevin Nordmeyer, AIA, LEED BD+C as New Associate Principal |
Experience in research, leadership and award-winning sustainable design supports supports BNIM's mission |
Des Moines, Ia. / Kansas City, Mo. — BNIM today announced Kevin Nordmeyer will join BNIM as an Associate Principal. Nordmeyer brings more than 20 years of leadership and design experience in innovative sustainable design. Nordmeyer comes to BNIM from the Iowa Energy Center, where he has successfully served as director since March 2009. The Iowa Energy Center is a research center at Iowa State University with a mission to conduct and sponsor research, education, and demonstration projects focused on energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. “Kevin’s 20 of years experience in research, leadership and award-winning sustainable, high performance design demonstrates and supports our ongoing commitment to the growth and advancement of our office,” said Rod Kruse, FAIA, Principal in charge of BNIM in Des Moines. “Kevin’s many talents compliment the exemplary talents of our existing staff and provide an opportunity to expand our services. We are delighted to have Kevin as part of our staff and are confident that our clients will soon share our excitement.” Prior to his leadership at the Iowa Energy Center, Nordmeyer was a partner at RDG Planning & Design in Des Moines, where for 13 years he led the design of numerous award-winning, sustainable buildings including: the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities Office and Training Facility, which was recognized nationally as one of the AIA’s Top Ten Green Buildings in 2002; the King Pavilion Addition to the College of Design at Iowa State University; and the Education Psychology building at Central College, the latter two of which were Iowa’s first LEED Platinum collegiate facilities. In 1992, while with Architects Wells Woodburn O’Neil, Nordmeyer lead the design of Iowa’s first modern sustainable building, the Center for Energy and Environmental Education at the University of Northern Iowa. For the Iowa Energy Center, Nordmeyer has served as the principal investigator for a pilot project to organize and demonstrate a statewide building energy benchmarking process for 1,250 city, county, K-12, community college and state-owned facilities across Iowa. In addition, Nordmeyer has recently served as a co-principal investigator for the $20 million National Science Foundation EPSCoR grant awarded to Iowa’s public universities to study and support energy efficiency, wind energy, bioenergy and energy policy in Iowa. Nordmeyer was the Founding Chair of the United States Green Building Council-Iowa Chapter and has served on several boards and commissions including the Iowa Environmental Council, AIA Iowa and the Iowa Commission on Energy Efficiency Standards and Practices. Kevin has also served as a lecturer in the College of Design at Iowa State University since 2003, where he focused on sustainable design education. |
