BNIM 2030 Commitment – 2024 Impact!
This year, BNIM is proud to report an 86% reduction in predicted energy use intensity (pEUI) from the 2003 energy baseline across more than 5 million square feet of designed space we touched in 2024. This marks the second year in a row that we’ve exceeded the threshold target reduction, and just the third time in our 15 years of continuous reporting. This milestone is the result of sustained commitment, lessons learned, collaborative design innovation, and a shared vision with our clients for what buildings can—and should—be.
But we are not stopping at incremental reduction; from this point forward, we treat net zero energy performance as our starting point, not the aspirational goal. These targets are embedded in our project approach, not as bolt-on features, but as core design drivers that align with our clients’ missions, values, and future resilience imperatives.
We understand that every project is an opportunity to deliver more than just a building. It’s a chance to:
- Reduce long-term operational costs
- Improve health and productivity
- Strengthen market position through environmental leadership
- Mitigate risk in an era of rising energy and climate volatility (and insurance premiums)
We invite our peers and collaborators to join us in shifting the conversation from sacrifice to opportunity, from obligation to innovation. The design decisions we make today shape decades of performance and impact. Every project, when designed with intention, can be part of the solution. Together, we can create regenerative, resilient, and net-positive environments—and lead the built environment toward a livable, thriving future.
In the spirit of generosity and amplifying good work, we hope you will review and incorporate the following guide to language and positioning from Kansas City’s 2025 Climate Action Summit.
