Carleigh Pope is Awarded 2022 Architects Foundation Large Firm Roundtable ARE Scholarship

Carleigh Pope was among the 34 people recently selected to receive the Architects Foundation’s 2022 AIA Large Firm Roundtable (LFRT) ARE scholarship. The Architects Foundation is a program in partnership with the AIA that was created to support and empower the next-generation of architects. This scholarship helps to break down the costs associated with the Architect Registration Examination (ARE), provides a one-year subscription to ArchiPrep and covers one year of Associate AIA or NOMA member fees in an effort to double the number of Black architects by 2030.

Brought on as an intern in Spring 2020, Carleigh has contributed to several key projects throughout her time at BNIM, including the Adaptive Reuse and Redevelopment of Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, and the MSU Temple Hall Renovation and Addition in Springfield, Missouri. Outside of work, Carleigh serves as the Public Relations Chair on the NOMA KC Executive Board and is involved in several local organizations and initiatives to engage young aspiring architects. Between work, involvement in NOMA KC, and her ongoing studies, Carleigh is able to combine and pursue her goals within each area. Carleigh is driven by the challenge of breaking down the systematic idea of what being an architect means. To her licensure is just one part of the bigger picture.

“Once I pass that threshold, my license will be precedent for those coming up after me. I will be in constant pursuit of greater representation in the field. […] It’s not about what the license can do for me, it’s about what my license will do for others.”
