Designing for Zero Carbon: Case Studies of All-Electric Buildings Now Available on Amazon
Designing for Zero Carbon: Case Studies of All-Electric Buildings by Edward Thomas Dean, FAIA, featuring Makers Quarter Block D is now available for purchase on Amazon. The book is also available as an online flip book that readers can view by clicking on the image above.
"This book presents case studies of five different buildings that are all-electric, highly energy-efficient and will achieve zero-carbon in their operation when the electric utility grid is 100% carbon-free. Written from the perspective of the design team and the client, the case studies show the design strategies utilized with detailed descriptions and diagrams of all the energy-related systems in the building. All the buildings have targeted zero-net-energy use, so the actual performance results for at least one year are presented, along with the energy modeling analysis done during the design phases. Embodied carbon analysis methods are also discussed."
Makers Quarter is both a place and a collective ethos inspired by the Maker Movement, which provides a creative environment to inspire entrepreneurs and artists to challenge convention and achieve new heights in innovation. Makers Quarter Block D is a 6-story collaborative office hub in the heart of the development that is also designed for street level activation and encourages interaction from the surrounding community. Rated LEED Platinum and Net Zero, highly flexible office suites utilize natural ventilation and a high performance façade with two active shading systems that optimize daylighting and flexibility for occupants. A photovoltaic panel (PV) system, —comprised of 313 total panels— provides estimated energy cost savings of more than 48% to the facility.
