Jamie Intervalo begins term as 2024 AIA San Diego President

Jamie Intervalo, AIA, LEED AP, BD+C, Studio Director of BNIM’s San Diego Studio, recently started her term as 2024 AIA San Diego President. In her Message from the President, Jamie shared her reflections and goals for the chapter in its 96th year:

“Looking ahead, what challenges will shape the next century, and how can our design community positively influence and transform San Diego's development? Amidst challenges from a multi-year pandemic and societal shifts, including social and climate justice issues, our role as citizen architects is critical now more than ever.

Our past leaders tackled issues related to downtown and military development, the post-war residential housing boom, and civic identity. In 2024 and beyond, we must not only address these ongoing issues but also focus on sustainability, equity, and prosperity in the next century of development. How will we stay relevant as civic advocates, respond to social and climate justice, and prepare the next generation of leaders?

Reflecting on the last century of development, it’s inspiring to see how our architectural community's commitment has shaped San Diego’s built environment. As your President in this, the Chapter’s 96th year, I am honored to carry forward our tradition of design excellence. Join me in leaning in, shaping the challenges of our generation, supporting future leaders, and celebrating the profound impact of design in our lives.”
