LifeServe Blood Center Headquarters honored with 2025 International Architecture Award and American Architecture Award
LifeServe Blood Center Headquarters is a 2025 recipient of both The International Architecture Award and The American Architecture Award. Presented by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design together with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, The International Architecture Awards and American Architecture Awards are among the most distinguished national and global building award programs, honoring new developments in design and current cutting-edge processes consistent with today’s design thinking across the U.S. and world.
LifeServe Blood Center Headquarters supports the critical and life-saving work of LifeServe, which extends beyond its building to serve over 170 hospitals across the region. A key goal of the project was both creating a healthy, supportive, functional headquarters office space for LifeServe employees while also establishing a welcoming and connective community presence in Johnston, Iowa. The design team worked closely with LifeServe, specialty suppliers and fabricators, the contractor, and full project team to understand design options to enhance organizational function, ensure efficient workflows and adjacencies of the site, and to address the complexities of blood movement and processing through the facility. In addition to enhancing overall function and daily workflows, the facility creates a positive shift in workplace culture and community connection. Design strategies thoughtfully support human health and well-beinng and enhance employee and donor experiences.
