PRINCIPLE 02

Human-Centered, Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility

BNIM aligns its use of AI with its commitment to enhance human, social, economic and environmental wellness in our designs while being conscious of the impact of this technology on our environment.

AI systems are employed to advance these goals, such as providing equitable access, optimizing energy efficiency, minimizing a projects carbon footprint, reducing waste, and creating climate-resilient designs.

Every AI-driven solution accounts for long-term environmental impact and fosters positive ecological outcomes for all lives in all communities and eco-systems.

PRINCIPLE 03

Fairness, Equity & Inclusivity

AI is to be used at BNIM to promote fairness through an intersectional approach which recognizes and includes overlapping identities and enhances diversity, equity, and inclusion through the built environment.

This includes an ongoing vigilance of developing AI systems to mitigate bias in data sets and design outcomes, constant review of query outcomes for bias, and striving for inclusive spaces for all.

AI is intended to help create spaces that address the needs of diverse and intermingled populations, with a focus on social justice and access for underserved communities.

PRINCIPLE 04

Transparency and Accountability

BNIM’s AI tools and processes are designed to be transparent to clients, project teams, and the public with an awareness of those clients and projects with Non-Disclosure Agreements.

Architects are accountable for AI’s role in design, ensuring stakeholders understand how AI-driven decisions are made.

Clear communication about AI’s role in the design process fosters trust and supports informed decision-making.

PRINCIPLE 05

Data Privacy and Security

BNIM safeguards sensitive information used by AI systems, ensuring strict data privacy and security measures are in place.

AI systems collect only the necessary data and protect it from unauthorized access or misuse.

Privacy is prioritized from the outset, with clear protocols for ethical data management.

PRINCIPLE 06

Evolving AIA Standards

As AI technology evolves, BNIM’s ethical and environmental standards regarding it will also evolve.

Continuous learning about AI’s capabilities, limitations, risks, and environmental impacts informs ongoing improvements in how AI is adapted and used within the firm.

Regular ethical and environmental reviews, professional development, and engagement with emerging AI technologies ensure that BNIM remains a leader in responsible, forward-thinking design.
