BNIM Presents at AIA26 Conference on Architecture and Design — Bending Rules of Development: Designing for Equity & Energy
Join us at the AIA26 Conference on Architecture & Design in San Diego, CA, for a dynamic presentation session, Bending the Rules of Development: Equity & Energy.
Jeremy Knoll, BNIM Director of Sustainability, Joyce Raybuck, BNIM Principal, and Ajia Morris, Founder of LocalCode Kansas City, will share candid lessons on resilience, belonging, and the long arc of public-interest design — what worked, what didn’t, and how systemic shifts in finance, governance, and partnerships are dismantling barriers. Attendees will also learn about tools such as BNIM’s Summit Method and models for scaling regenerative, community-centered futures.
The presentation will explore two catalytic housing development projects in Kansas City:
The Bancroft School Redevelopment: A LEED Platinum affordable housing redevelopment shaped by inclusive community engagement
The Sanford B. Ladd School Redevelopment: A historic adaptive reuse project in design and pursuing net-zero energy, inclusive commercial space, and equity-led development
