BNIM to Lead Worldwide Renovation Projects for U.S. State Department

BNIM has received its first assigned project in Kampala, Uganda through the Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Worldwide Major Rehabilitation/Renovation Design Services contract.

In 2013, BNIM was selected by OBO as one of five design teams, from a shortlist of nine, for the Worldwide Major Rehabilitation/Renovation Architecture/Engineering Design Services IDIQ. Solicited under OBO’s Excellence in Diplomatic Facilities initiative, OBO recognized the selected firms for demonstrating extensive renovation and restoration experience and a strong architectural team. OBO also cited each firm’s history of respecting the original character and significance of buildings and structures and sense of place, and consistent response with innovative and efficient solutions that enhance the existing architecture.

“This important work for the Department of State is a significant opportunity to demonstrate eco-diplomacy abroad, while respecting the unique sense of place of these locations,” said Steve McDowell, FAIA, Design Principal. “Our experience with High Performance Integrated Design is applicable anywhere and will enhance the performance of the buildings that the OBO operates. The firm is intent upon using the best design methods possible to be good stewards of American values in OBO projects worldwide.”

OBO’s mission is to provide safe, secure and functional facilities that represent the U.S. government to the host nation and support OBO staff in the achievement of U.S. foreign policy objectives. These facilities should represent American values and the best in American architecture, engineering, technology, sustainability, art, culture, and construction precision.

BNIM is known as an industry leader in sustainability and the firm’s approach using High Performance Integrated Design as a method of achieving design excellence for clients has been proven to provide the highest value because the solutions offer economy, efficiency and exceptional performance. This IDIQ was solicited under OBO’s Excellence initiative. BNIM has also successfully completed several projects for the General Services Administration with the Design Excellence program, which utilizes the best methods and technologies to produce facilities that are outstanding in all respects.
