The Hawthorne Valley Association is a non-profit organization that promotes social and cultural renewal through the integration of education, agriculture and the arts. Hawthorne Valley is committed to environmentally sound land management as the basis for sustainable economic success. In February of 2012, BNIM and a visionary team of engineers and deeply-rooted community members began a dialogue about a new Master Plan that drew from the initial vision developed at Hawthorne Valley in the 1960s.

Led by a vision statement and guiding principles that emerged from a planning retreat, the team developed a new plan that represents the community’s priorities for the future of Harlemville, focusing on how the community approaches water, energy, ecological cycling of nutrients, energy, and high-performance built environments. The plan crafts a vision for the hamlet of Harlemville and identifies paths for future development that supports a unified built environment.
