Longview HT Automotive Expansion

Expanding MCC-Longview's Automotive Program to bring a growing set of technical training disciplines under one roof

Longview HT Automotive Expansion

Information

  • Location Lee's Summit, Missouri

For the expansion to MCC-Longview’s Automotive Program, BNIM partnered with the College to explore their current space needs and requirements for future programs such as Diesel Mechanics, Small Engines, and a Collision Body Shop.

Phase One of the expansion project features an addition that creates space for a paint booth to accommodate MCC’s new Collision Program. The scope of Phase One encompassed a new one-story addition of approximately 2,500 GSF adjoining the west side of the existing automotive bay and the interior renovation subdividing MCC’s 1,800 GSF computer lab to create a right-sized computer lab and a new 20-seat classroom. For Phase Two of the project, BNIM provided Metropolitan Community College with Concept Design, Programming, and Cost Estimating services in support of a proposed renovation and expansion of the existing High-Tech Building at MCC’s Longview Campus. The project builds on the College’s existing Automotive Technology and Collision Repair Technology programs while adding new capacity for Agricultural Mechanics, Diesel Mechanics, Body Shop, and Small Engine programs – consolidating a growing set of technical training disciplines under one expanded facility with a new, distinctive student-facing entrance and identity.

BNIM’s scope included development of a preliminary space program, diagrammatic floor plans, and a construction cost estimate, along with renderings created specifically to support MCC’s fundraising efforts. The team also prepared written narratives from consulting engineers covering structural, civil/site, MEPF, and technology/low-voltage systems – providing MCC with a complete, fundable early-stage vision for a facility designed to accommodate both high- and low-bay instructional, lab, and shop spaces, built with durable, long-lasting materials and planned from the outset for future growth and flexibility.
