Description

BNIM is collaborating with HNTB on the New Terminal Project at Des Moines International Airport, aimed to provide a transformative passenger experience that serves as a front door to Metropolitan Des Moines and the surrounding Iowa region. The program will include all major infrastructure for new check-in, baggage handling, concessions/retail, and security screening. The purpose-driven effort focuses on generous design that is welcoming to passengers with an intuitive and comfortable passenger-oriented experience.

The terminal design is configured around a central spine connecting the existing parking garage to the new terminal at both the grade and second levels. This central axis organizes the terminal and highlights the multiple passenger circulation paths with clear views to the concourse and the airﬁeld.

The project includes master planning for phased expansions to the north and south that will allow the airport to expand the terminal capacity to meet future passenger projections that will further boost the economy of the region.
