BNIM Announces New Principal Leadership
KANSAS CITY, MO (Dec. 11, 2023) — BNIM announces the advancement of four new Principals including Hans Nettelblad, AIA LEED AP, Joyce Raybuck, AIA, LEED AP, Josh Harrold, AIA, and Katie Nichols, AIA LEED AP.
BNIM recognizes these four architects for their significant work as design leaders, mentors, innovators, and collaborators, strengthening the firm’s collective capacity as a practice to design and deliver beautiful, integrated environments to inspire change and enhance the human condition.
Hans Nettelblad, with more than 30 years in the architectural profession, has provided unparalleled leadership and direction on complex, large-scale projects at BNIM, advocating for sustainable and human-purposed design solutions. Hans is recognized by his colleagues for his invaluable contributions in design and project leadership, as well as his positive impact on BNIM’s culture, encouraging and leading the practice’s involvement in initiatives such as annual Bike MS race. Hans’s work at BNIM has included the sustainable rebuilding of the City of Greensburg, Kansas, following an EF-5 tornado in 2007; multiple transformational renovations and projects spanning 20 years of collaboration with the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO; and The REACH Expansion at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
Joyce Raybuck has nearly 20 years of experience in the profession, and her leadership at BNIM reflects a deep alignment with firm’s design ethos and sustainability goals. Joyce is co-leader of BNIM’s Sustainability Group and has been instrumental in supporting the firm’s commitment to climate action. She was recognized with the AIA Kansas City President’s Award in 2022 for her work championing the adoption of the IECC 2021 energy code in Kansas City, MO. She has held an integral role in design initiatives for Overseas Buildings Operations globally; the Kirk Family YMCA in Kansas City, MO; Blunt Hall Addition and Renovation at Missouri State University; and design leadership for the new Glenn Korff School of Music at University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
Josh Harrold is an experienced design leader with over two decades of practice demonstrating a creative and rigorous approach to design excellence. With a background in both architecture and studio art, Josh brings a commitment to elevating and supporting the Arts through architecture and a passion for regional vernacular design in his work. Josh’s projects have included the design of the master plan and renovation of Springfield Art Museum; the Ozarks Education Center at Missouri State University; the Blunt Hall Addition and Renovation at Missouri State University; the Kirk Family YMCA in Kansas City, MO; and the Kansas City International Airport Parking Garage.
Katie Nichols brings 20 years of experience to her role at BNIM, providing knowledge and guidance as a significant leader for project teams, collaborators, and clients. Katie has maintained dedicated involvement in AIA Kansas throughout her career, and she is actively involved in advancing initiatives for equity and inclusion at BNIM and across the profession. She has contributed focused design leadership on various Overseas Buildings Operations projects and Keeler Court Apartments in San Diego, CA, and her recent project leadership includes the Dr. E.J. and Margaret O’Brien Hall, new home for the College of Business Administration and Graduate School of Management at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI; Congregation Beth Shalom Sanctuary Addition in Overland Park, KS; and the design of the future Camp Tongawood for the Girl Scouts of Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri.
As BNIM Principals, these architects serve as trusted advisors to BNIM’s clients and project teams and demonstrate generous mentorship and leadership at firm-, industry- and community-scales. They continue to elevate BNIM’s practice through a commitment to the firm’s core values, exceptional results, and continued improvement for the future.
