Jamie Intervalo joins BNIM as Pacific Studio Director

SAN DIEGO, Ca (September 7, 2022) – BNIM announces Jamie Intervalo, AIA, LEED AP BD+C as Pacific Studio Director. Jamie is an experienced project manager and architect with 15 years of practice in the San Diego area. Her collaborative, integrated design approach and dedication to advancing the profession through advocacy for equity, diversity, and inclusion strongly align with BNIM’s core purpose and values. Jamie will elevate the firm’s commitment to designing human-purposed, sustainable, and equitable environments throughout California and the West Coast.

As Director of BNIM’s Pacific Studio, Jamie will strengthen BNIM’s presence in San Diego as she guides project teams and serves as a key point of contact for clients and ongoing project initiatives. BNIM continues to expand work within the key market sectors of higher education, workplace, equitable housing, and urban planning. Jamie’s experience and leadership in urban planning and design will build upon BNIM’s award-winning portfolio and initiatives for designing positive outcomes, including the LEED Platinum-certified Makers Quarter Block D, Pacific Center Campus Development, Ivy Senior Apartments, and Keeler Court Apartments.

Jamie’s experience spans a variety of project types with specialization in design for higher education, commercial, workplace, and multi-family residential clients. Her expertise is demonstrated in her past portfolio of work including the York Hall Seismic Improvements at University of California, San Diego, a Master Plan and Retrofit for the Comic Con Museum in San Diego’s Balboa Park, Holland Park and Market block development, and Grossmont Community College Math and Science Building Complex II, among others.

Jamie is a mentor and advocate for future emerging professionals in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. She utilizes her work with the AIA to elevate and support a culture of equity within the profession and recently served as AIA San Diego’s first Director of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Justice (EDI+J) on the Board of Directors. In this role, Jamie guided and advanced the chapter’s initiatives for EDI+J, introducing important dialogues on gender, ethnicity, race, and inclusion and establishing EDI+J fundamentals as part of the chapter’s strategic plan and functions. She has also advanced the collaboration between other AIA chapters across the country and organizations such as NOMA, SDAF and ACE Mentor to elevate thought leadership on these types of issues. Her work with the local chapter has also extended chapter resources to community college networks in the region / cross border to broaden the outreach for future emerging professionals in the pipeline. Jamie is currently the Secretary / Treasurer (2022) for the San Diego Chapter and is also a Board Director for AIA California (2022). Next year, she will be incoming AIA San Diego Vice President (2023).

Jamie received her Master of Architecture from the NewSchool of Architecture and Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies and Planning from the University of California, San Diego. She is a registered architect in the state of California, a member of the American Institute of Architects, and a LEED Accredited Professional, Building Design + Construction.
