The REACH is among AN's Best of Design Awards of 2020

Architect’s Newspaper released the Best of Design Awards of 2020 and BNIM was honored to have a project featured among the exceptional projects this year. The REACH at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, with Steven Holl Architects and Hollander Design Landscape Architects, was the winner of the cultural category. The Eighth Annual Best Of Design Awards is a unique project-based awards program that showcases great buildings, building elements, interiors, and installations.

The REACH adds much-needed rehearsal, education, and varied, flexible indoor and outdoor spaces to allow the center to continue to play a leadership role in providing artistic, cultural, and enrichment opportunities. Most notably, the Kennedy Center offers a place where the community can engage and interact with artists. The design supports the Kennedy Center’s mission of “…increasing opportunities for all people to participate in and understand the arts.”  Evolving the Kennedy Center’s role as the nation’s performing arts center, the REACH provides not only more space, but the right kinds of space, to continue the Kennedy Center's growing body of arts education and social impact programs. In both design and in programming, the REACH embodies a next-generation response to President Kennedy’s vision for “a new frontier for American art.”
