The redevelopment of the historic Bancroft School was critical to the healthy transformation of Kansas City’s Manheim Park neighborhood. BNIM collaborated with a development team, including Dalmark Development Group and Make It Right, to facilitate community meetings. Ideas included facilities for daycare, community greenhouses, job training, cultural arts, exercise, and affordable housing. Following the meetings, BNIM developed a conceptual design package for the reuse of the existing building, landscape design, a below-grade parking structure, and proposed new housing. The design package also included rigorous sustainability measures.
