Katie Nichols

Katie is a Principal in BNIM’s Kansas City office. She works collaboratively with owner representatives, design consultants, and colleagues to lead design processes that transform a diverse range of learning and social environments. Katie enjoys developing a deep contextual understanding of each project’s opportunities, focusing on performance, systems thinking and an integrative approach to design to create a collective vision for transformative project outcomes. Her recent project leadership includes the Dr. E.J. and Margaret O’Brien Hall, new home for the College of Business Administration and Graduate School of Management at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI; Congregation Beth Shalom Sanctuary Addition in Overland Park, KS; and the design of the future Camp Tongawood for the Girl Scouts of Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri.

Katie is deeply committed to advancing environmental restoration, resilience and high performance on all projects. She helps to guide and support staff at BNIM in implementing our Sustainability Action Plan. She has co-led the People Group, guiding conversations to advance equity and inclusion through our work and worked to establish BNIM’s JUST Label in 2021. Katie is a strong and visible supporter of the American Institute of Architects, serving as Board President in 2018 and continuing her volunteerism and services as a member of the Board of Directors since 2014.
